A traditional Japanese mask used in Noh theater, depicting a young, beautiful woman (the canon of female beauty in Heian-period Japan, 794–1185). Its name literally means "small face," referring to her delicate, subtle features.
In Noh theater, the komoote mask is used to portray young heroines—innocent girls, princesses, or ghosts. It often appears in plays about love, longing, or the supernatural.
Due to its symbolism, Komoote has also been used in arts and crafts as a talisman to bring good luck and beauty.
